An Edge-y “poem” from the cast and crew

December 4, 2008

After two amazing months of COASTING through the show at Revival Bar, we sadly must come to a close. We have all BECOME so close and BETTER friends through this amazing experience. We opened on October 20th and were READY TO BE LOVED, and a little scared that people would think that our show was DISPENSABLE. Fortunately, the show took off in Toronto with people everywhere saying “I’VE GOTTA RUN to go see Edges”. The response has really made us think: “BOY! WITH DREAMS that come true, you sure feel a lot of pride,” and “MAN! OF MY DREAMS that I hoped would come true, this one ranked pretty high.” Thank you for believing in our show and supporting us all along the way.

I ONCE KNEW someone who told me that sometimes the best ideas come to you when you are simply LYING THERE and LIKE….BREATHING and thinking… and stuff. Well that’s how Edges got started. By simply thinking that this was a show we would all want to be a PART OF; A PAINTING that we wanted to paint together and to share with the people of Toronto. And it’s turned out to be pretty PERFECT.

Special thanks to our headEDGESHEADs for supporting the show (especially CAITLYN AND HALEY).

This is also probably a good opportunity to reveal one of the behind-the-scenes secrets. Through this whole run, Reza and I… HMMM…. YOU know what, I should probably save that announcement for another time.

IN SHORT thank you all for agreeing to BE MY FRIEND and following this site through our run.

Every day with Edges, has been a PRETTY SWEET DAY.

(TRANSITION: Don’t forget there are two final performances of Edges on Sunday (Dec. 7) @ 7PM and Monday @ 8PM (Dec. 8). Visit www.edgestoronto.com to get your tickets to the final shows)

extedges!!!!!!!

November 20, 2008

women and men of the world.
your prayers have been answered.
Edges is being extended one last time, to December 8th.

sorry i just have to wait a sec, i can’t think with all this cheering that i’m hearing.

i’m certain you’re all really glad about this, because all of you reading this blog are in the show, produce the show, (musical) direct the show, or play in the show.  or are Derrick Chua.

do not miss your chance to see Edges.  i’m not sure how much more i can stress that point.  see the show.  just see it.  it’s amazing.  have you read the reviews?  everyone loves us.  and the guy that hates us hates us so much that he basically loves us.  there is absolutely no reason why you cannot come to see Edges.  you’re going feel so stupid when everyone around you is talking about Edges and singing Edges at their auditions and cabarets and talent shows and you won’t know what it is or where this amazing music came from.  and you’ll feel so stupid when me, jordan, eric, and gabi are hosting the Doras and you won’t know why we’re up there or where we came from, but the Edges fans in the crowd will be like, “those are the cool Edges kids, I’m so glad they’re hosting the Doras and that Sara isn’t speaking.”
avoid feeling stupid.  go see Edges.  you don’t have a lot of time left.  do it for Billy with one leg.  he wants to see Edges but can’t because Old Man Crocket didn’t give him his pay this week.  go see Edges for Billy and tell him about it and let him smile a million smiles through your experience at Edges.
100% of ticket sales will be donated to the adorable puppy fund of Canada.  do you hate puppies?  Canadian puppies?  no one does, that’s riduculous.  come to Edges and support Canadian puppies.  adorable ones, not those hot dog ones or the little mice dogs.  and you’ll get a free puppy at Edges when you come to Edges.

i’m so excited to see you at Edges!
extedges!  tell the world.  the clock is tick-tocking.

Look what the critics are saying:

what’s so great about Edges?

November 6, 2008

i’ll tell you:

- the music will make you want to dance around and scream things like “VERY GOOD!” it will make you want to sing the music when you leave. it’s probably some of the best musical theatre music you’ll hear in a long time, with lyrics and stories that you’ll probably relate to. and by probably i mean for realsies.
- the venue is very very nice. it is actually the star of the show because people keep saying, “the show is great, but this venue is so gorgeous!” and you can get a drink or five when you’re there, watching the show, and it will make the show seem even better than if you only had a drink or four. imagine all the dancing you’ll do and all the yelling of “VERY GOOD!”
- the cast is smoking hot. except for this past week when the heater broke. but we’re pretty decent and so cute. you’ll want to be our friends, even if the youtube videos might make you feel slightly otherwise. we need friends, so we need you to come and want to be our friends.
- Reza Jacobs.
- Jamie Drake’s drum set. and Jamie Drake.
- Little Italy, where Revival is located. you cross Bathurst on College and enter an adorable, cool area of the city and you’ll feel about ten point cooler for being there, plus all that pizza.
- you’ll be doing the Toronto theatre scene and yourself an enormous favour by supporting an exciting, new show, an exciting, new company and exciting, new talent who are excitable.
- Reza Jacobs

I assume most of you (Mitchell and Gabi) know [title of show], the inspiring little musical that incredibly made it to Broadway this past year. in it is a song, “Nine People’s Favourite Thing” about how much more important it is to be the favourite of a few people than it is to be the meh of a large number of people. i think Edges is a lot of people’s not meh, perhaps even their favourite. if you love Edges, tell your friends. tell as many as you can. tell them you’ll cut them in the night if they don’t go see Edges to maybe scare them into it. or you can use my list of reasons if you want. or your own. if you have other reasons, share them with me, by all means!

spread the wordedges. spread the lovedges. support the edges!!!!!

Edges, Edges Everwhere!!

October 30, 2008

Edges officially opened on Monday night to a sold-out, hugely enthusiastic crowd, and now it seems to be taking over the media!

First, The Toronto Star wrote an amazing piece on how Edges is trying to change theatergoing habits in the city:

http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/Theatre/article/524963

Then, after opening, we received two awesome reviews.

The Toronto Star gave the show 3 out of 4 stars saying:

“Four joyous young singers and the pair of dynamite musicians who back them up are more than enough reason to urge you to go see Edges.”

“Jordan Bell is alternately sweet and sly… Eric Craig is hysterically bitchy then beautifully lyrical… Sara Farb burns with a clean bright light Gabi Epstein] stops the evening cold twice.”

Read the rest of it here:

http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/article/525719

Then Eye Weekly gave us 4 out of 5 stars:

http://www.eyeweekly.com/arts/theatre/article/43567

Finally, our fourth Edgy questions has been posted on Youtube! The video features clips from “Pretty Sweet Day” and has the cast baffled over a question about “friendship”.

Enjoy!

overwedges

October 22, 2008

yesterday was the first show.
i’m still kind of getting over the rush.  it was such a thrilling performance, the audience was so energetic and responsive and generous.  We all felt so good about it, and we’re so happy that everyone in that room enjoye it as much as they did.  honestly, it was electric.  i couldn’t have asked for a better first go.

there’s lots of media to share.  here’s a special edition of the Arts Rapport (remember how much i love the Arts Rapport?) that has aaaaaaaall to do with Edges!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaXsCj9qg3I

here’s an article from yesterday’s Metro news about Edges
http://www.actingupstage.com/edges/press/metro.html

and here’s amanda campbells one million star review of Edges
http://mt-champion.livejournal.com/9128.html
keep checking back because there is going to be a lot more stuff to watch, read, or whatever else you can do… listen to?  look at?  i think that’s it before it gets weird.

we open officially on the 27th!  COME SEE EDGES!!!!
